Position Description

This position is responsible for the development and implementation of pharmacy solutions strategy for The US Oncology Network (The Network). The Director of Pharmacy Solutions works collaboratively with The Network practices, leadership and McKesson Specialty Health (MSH) leadership to implement processes and procedures to ensure the delivery of high quality comprehensive cost-effective pharmacy services that meet regulatory, quality and contractual obligations. Supports the efforts of The Network Pharmacy Strategic Programs team, Operations team, GPO, Managed Care. Participates with the Pharmacy Solutions team to establish The Network strategic plans and objectives. Directs the Pharmacy Operations within the assigned practices.

  • In collaboration with MSH leadership, GPO team, The Network operations team and Network practices, develops and implements strategies to optimize drug contracting, managed care, and drug use initiatives.
  • In collaboration with MSH leadership, The Network operations team and The Network practices develops and implements strategies to assure pharmacy services meet and/or exceed regulatory, quality and contractual obligations. This includes setting standards for efficiencies and implementing standardization when appropriate across The Network practices.
  • Implementation of short and long-term strategies developed within The Network and MSH in assigned practices.
  • Provide practice- based feedback to MSH and appropriate teams regarding clinical programs, tools and services. Communicate suggestions for improvement, opportunities for new tool or service development to relevant personnel and/or teams.
  • Manages projects by prioritizing issues and responding to the business needs of The Network and MSH.
  • Other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • 8+ years of pharmacy experience including 5+ years managerial experience (Please note that specific business units minimum years of experience may be different, and may require pharmacy certification depending on state law)
Critical Skills
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent required.
  • Active Pharmacist License required.
  • MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Board Certified preferred
  • 5+ years of management in oncology pharmacy required.
  • Business development experience with community oncology practices preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of community oncology practices.
  • Knowledge of payer, regulatory, compliance and licensure issues at the federal and state level relative to community oncology pharmacy.
  • Proven experience managing many diverse projects and programs related to oncology pharmacy services that have demonstrated positive results on patient outcomes are required.
  • Success managing ongoing relationships, including primarily by remote communications and technology (phone, email, web conference, O365).
Specialized Knowledge/Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve; to successfully look at system improvements in the clinical and business areas and interact with stakeholders;
  • Ability to structure useful guidance around complex strategy decisions to influence and guide the decisions made by others;
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Word;
  • Experience working in matrix environment is necessary for the person to succeed;
  • Strong orientation and commitment to external and internal customer service;
  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment;
  • Ability to form and articulate persuasive arguments based on analysis;
  • Proven ability to partner and work across boundaries in order to achieve results
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills , strong critical thinking skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize /follow-up;
  • Excellent ability to manage in a fast-paced growing environment;
  • Proven experience to support growth of Specialty and Retail Services.
  • Project management, problem solving skills are required and must be demonstrated through past experience.
  • Proven fiscal management skills.
Additional Knowledge and Skills
  • Thorough knowledge of inventory management, pharmaceutical receiving/shipping operations, and state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy services. Proficient in the use of new medications and technology. Detail oriented with excellent computer and communication skills.
